3 Secret Weight Loss Aids To Guarantee Weight Loss Success

31 Jul

There are three distinct types of weight loss aids:

1. Visual aids

2. Auditory aids and

3. Kinaesthetic aids

The bad news is: Willpower and self-discipline is an essential factor in achieving weight loss success, And it is up to you, and you alone to discover those aids that will help you stick to your weight management program for the rest of you life.

The good news is: There are a huge variety of dieting aids available to facilitate the task of losing those surplus pounds and keeping it off.

Visual Weight Loss Aids

Visual weight reduction aids are extremely useful. A picture of yourself at your ideal weight can provide the visual stimulus you need. Or looking at the beautiful evening gown or snazzy bikini you want to fit into or even a picture of runners arriving at the finish line of the fun-run you want to complete… any of these may do the trick. Whatever you are working towards, whether it is losing weight or improving your health, make your dieting aids visual.

Put your picture up in a conspicuous place at work or at home where you can see it often. So that when you feel discouraged, this will remind you of your weight loss goal and will help you keep your commitment.

Auditory Weight Loss Aids

Auditory aids can be as powerful as visual ones, if not more powerful. For example, negative people bring you down and lower your self-esteem. Get these negative people out of your life.

The most effective auditory slimming aids must be weight loss hypnosis cd ‘s.

There are many weight loss hypnosis CD ‘s, MP3′s and other downloads available on the internet today. They are easy to use, some are even available for immediate download. They can be used in your own time and at your own pace. Some are more effective than others, so only buy from reputable dealers.

Kinaesthetic Weight Loss Aids

An very effective kinaesthetic/tactile aid is to sign a weight management contract. People who write their goals down are far more likely to succeed than people who focus mentally on their weight loss goals.

Putting something in writing somehow makes it more binding. In the contract, you should include a reward (not food-related) that you will give yourself once you have accomplished your dieting goal.

So put up your picture, download your recordings, and sign your contract:

I,__________________________ hereby vow to keep moving toward my weight loss goal of ______________________ (losing x pounds in x weeks) regardless of any obstacles or challenges I may have to face.

I understand that challenges are transitory and temporary. I vow to use all of my mental and physical resources to overcome them, and I refuse to be intimidated, discouraged or cowed by self-doubt.

I will persevere no matter what, knowing undeniably that I have the power to overcome any temptation.

Signed and dated: ___________________________________________________________

Lack of motivation happens to us all, but if you do not motivate yourself to reach your goals, no one else will. It is important to keep your eye on your weight management goals, find the appropriate weight loss aids to keep you going, and in no time, your efforts will be rewarded.

The Meeting and Its Significance

31 Jul

A meeting is the most fundamental form or unit of interaction among humans. As humans have to constantly interact with other humans, meetings cannot be avoided. Hence, the meeting has become a part and parcel of our lives. Every meeting has an agenda, the raison d’etre for the meeting, which is entwined with the proposed topics of discussion of the meeting. Every meeting is attended by a certain number of attendees, is presided over by a chairperson. The minutes of a meeting represent everything that is discussed at the meeting. The minutes, in other words, are a record of the meeting proceedings. The date and time of a meeting are collectively known as the meeting schedule.

Birthday Party

Meetings may be of various kinds. A birthday party is a meeting of the invited guests and the host, whose birthday it is. Presents are exchanged (the host also has to give return presents to his or her guests as a token of gratitude for their presence), games are played, prizes are won and food is served. The main meeting agenda for a birthday party is the host’s birthday. If anyone is assigned the task of documenting the meeting minutes of a birthday party, they will record all the games and the other events conducted at the party, how everyone entertained themselves, the nature of the food that was served, etc.

Business Conference

A business conference is a meeting of a more serious nature. In a business conference, business strategies are delineated, goals are set, courses of action are charted out for the growth and expansion of the business. Such a meeting, unlike a birthday party, need not always end on a positive note. A business conference may end in discord and disagreement. Also, it may be decided at the conference to sack some people in the interests of the company. It is mandatory to take down the meeting minutes of a business conference. To stimulate the meeting management process, certain brilliant meeting management applications have been invented. A meeting management application is a meeting management software that helps to automate the meeting process. Reliable meeting management software can do wonders to a meeting.

War

A war is also a meeting. The meeting agenda of a war consists chiefly of fighting and of defeating the adversary, apart from grabbing whatever spoils there are to be seized. A war is a meeting that results in killing and death.

Summit

A Summit is a meeting between different nations. At a Summit, different countries meet to discuss how they can conserve the environment, how they can arrest climate change, how they can curtail emissions. The meeting minutes of a Summit also have to be recorded in detail so that politicians, the media and the public understand whether the Summit was fruitful or whether it ended in a stalemate (as most Summits do) on reading the meeting minutes. Nuclear programs and policies of nations may also be discussed at Summits where the meeting agenda is nuclear disarmament, no first use and proliferation policy, etc. Summits can also be economic Summits. In economic Summits, the meeting agenda that is tabled for discussion comprises economic and trade policies, the issue of subsidies, trade reforms and trade norms of nations and whether such norms and policies are in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) policies.

Political Meeting

A meeting can also be a political meeting. The chief purpose of any political meeting is to procure more supporters for the party that has summoned the meeting. Charismatic political leaders can influence the masses by the sheer force of their words. As a result, political meetings lead many people to repudiate their own parties, switch loyalties, tergiversate and defect to the opposite camp i.e. the party, which is conducting the meeting. The main aims of a political meeting are to propagate the party that is hosting the meeting as the best political party of the land and as the party, which will bring the maximum number of benefits to the populace, if elected, and to create as many renegades as possible in rival parties and induct them into the party that is conducting the meeting. Chief whips and bigwigs of political parties can be very smart meeting presenters or chairpersons. With their power and charm, they can hold sway over thousands at a caucus. The meeting agenda of a political meeting is framed by a political party with a view to garnering as much popularity and support as possible among the electorate, so that the party can trounce the opposing parties during an election. Most political leaders stop at nothing to attain their objectives.

A political meeting can also be a political meeting between different nations such as the G-8 meetings. In such high-profile political meetings, member nations discuss what stance they should adopt towards non-member nations, whether they should modify the rules and policies of international bodies such as the Security Council and the United Nations and other matters that concern the world.

Religious Meeting

A meeting can also be a religious meeting. The attendees of a religious meeting are sometimes known as pilgrims while their journey to the religious meeting is called a pilgrimage. The person who calls a religious meeting is generally an important person of that particular religion. The pope can call a meeting of the Christian clergy at the Vatican in a bid to discuss how the tenets of Christianity can be applied to this frenzied world in order to improve values among people, uplift the poor, etc. On Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day, every year, the pope addresses a congregation of people, who assemble at St. Peter’s Square, adjacent to the Vatican, in the hopes of receiving the pontiff’s blessings and for paying tribute to Jesus Christ.

A conclave of Christian cardinals meets at the St. Peter’s Basilica in order to elect a new pope when the existing pope breathes his last.

Millions of Muslims gather at Haj and Mecca in order to pay homage to Islamic saints and to the Prophet. The clerics, Imams, and the muezzins urge the acolytes of Islam to pray to Allah.

The primary aim of religious meetings is to inculcate values and morality among followers and to inform the common public of God and His ways. Other religious communities also conduct religious meetings with the same goal i.e. the spreading of spirituality by expounding their own religious doctrines. Sometimes, religious meetings are also conducted with the aim of converting people of other religions to the faith of the group that has called the meeting.

Conscious and Unconscious Meetings

Now the meetings I have described above are ‘conscious’ meetings, which means that they are attended consciously by the attendees. But in our lives, we generally attend several meetings ‘unconsciously’. When we meet someone on our way to work who informs us that an accident has taken place further down the road, we are attending an ‘unconscious’ meeting. When we chat with someone over a cup of coffee at the cafeteria, we are participating in an ‘unconscious’ meeting. When we are with our families, relatives and friends, we are actually in an unconscious meeting. It is very strange but the truth is that we learn a lot more from unconscious meetings than from conscious meetings and that we attend far more unconscious meetings than conscious meetings. Moreover, even if there is no proper meeting agenda in unconscious meetings, as there is in conscious meetings, the topics of unconscious meetings may make for very valid and practical meeting agenda.

Abnormal Meetings

Do not get frightened about what I am going to say next. All the meetings that I have mentioned so far have been normal meetings. But those who are psychic and believe in ghosts claim that there are paranormal or abnormal or weird meetings too. I take this claim with a pinch of salt, as I do not believe in ghosts or in the paranormal. However, since ghost believers insist that there are ghosts, I am compelled to write this paragraph on paranormal meetings. Paranormal or abnormal or weird meetings constitute a planchette where the spirit of a dead person is called and invoked by a bunch of paranormal junkies or weirdos. The purpose of the meeting or the meeting agenda is to ask the spirit or ghost some questions relating to his or her life on Earth and relating to his or her afterlife, wherever he or she is now. They say that when murdered people are called from their graves, they can reveal the names of the people who slew them. This, I consider, is definitely the single most important plus point of such meetings as such revelations can bring to book the wicked.

We have so far discussed the diverse types of meetings, conscious and unconscious meetings, abnormal or weird meetings. We have also specified the meeting agenda of the different meetings. We have noted that meetings are an inevitable and unavoidable part of our lives. Now we shall explore how meetings have affected us and the significance of meetings.

How Significant is the Meeting?

For expatiating on the significance of meetings, I have to tell you of a mega meeting that occurred recently and which I had the honor of attending. It was Christmas day. I was gathered with thousands of people. Exactly where we had gathered, I cannot recall. All that I remember was that the place was an enormous square. It could have been an Italian piazza – St. Mark’s Square in Venice or St. Peter’s Square, flanking the Vatican. It could have also been somewhere in London, in Trafalgar Square, perhaps, in the vicinity of the Parliament Building and the Westminster Abbey. But when I rack my brains I remember a wide thoroughfare with an arch at one end. So, it could easily have been the Champs Elysees. Or was it in front of the Taj Mahal? The meeting venue might have been before the Taj because I can recall an impressive, spotless, white mausoleum at the venue. But there was an edifice with colonnades. Then was it near the Parthenon that the meeting was conducted? In any event, let me not accord too much importance to the meeting venue or the spot where the event was hosted. Let me get back to the substance of the meeting.

The meeting was attended by thousands, in fact, by millions of people. They were a strange motley, an odd potpourri. Some were dressed in hides, some in togas and robes, others in breeches, gowns and Victorian attire. Yet there were others accoutered in saris, salwar kameez and kimonos. There were others who donned jeans and T-shirts. I was wearing a pair of trousers and a shirt. At first, I could not identify myself with the crowd. I thought it was all a fancy dress party. I gravitated towards the men and women wearing jeans and T-shirts. The folks with patrician features were wearing togas and robes. Some forbidding looking Turks even had swords, daggers and scimitars. When I was totally bewildered and wondering whether I should leave, somebody from the crowd rose. He was so tall and imposing, he must have been thrice my height. And that is no joke because I am 6 feet 5 inches. Though his face was wizened, he still looked handsome. His chest was bare. He was wearing a cloth around his waist. He introduced himself as Zeus, the King of the Gods. Everybody cheered and so I cheered. He said that we had assembled in order to understand the significance of the meeting. Then two women came up and sat on either side of Zeus. One of the women seemed very familiar to me. I knew I had seen her somewhere before. I was struggling to remember who she was when Zeus introduced her as his daughter, Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. And then it came back in a flash. I had seen her broken effigy, Venus de Milo, at the Louvre. The other woman who was sitting on the other side of Zeus was my patron, the lady who had asked me to attend the meeting.

The men in togas proceeded towards the rostrum. One handsome man started to deliver a speech, the moment he got to the pulpit. “But Brutus is an honourable man…” he reiterated. The teeming millions were enthralled by his words. My comrades in jeans and T-shirts and I were mesmerized by his being. The speaker frankly admitted that he was remembered for his prowess in rabble rousing. I could not believe that I was gazing up at Mark Anthony.

Suddenly there was chaos. The men and women in hides started to behave savagely, charging at everybody with their flint stones and crude tools and implements. Some of them did not even resemble humans, they seemed like apes and gorillas on their hind legs. However, Zeus managed to pacify them. He said, “let us honor these ancestors of ours, these wonderful Homo sapiens and Stone Age people.” The multitudes at the meeting applauded. The Homo sapiens and Stone Age people appeared to be greatly mollified and even looked apologetic and quietly retreated to their places. Gladiators danced and the meeting venue took the shape of the Colosseum, momentarily. Then a young man in white and bearing a cross appeared from nowhere and we all stood up to give him a standing ovation. Zeus himself got up from his throne and said, “Praise be to Jesus Christ, whose birthday it is today and who is the Savior of humankind.”

Charlemagne looked a bit old to me but strong nevertheless. Constantine was constantly chatting with Christ. He did not seem to want to participate in the meeting. But Attila the Hun cut a sorry figure for himself. He looked a caricature of himself. Not only was he unable to inspire fear in people, but he also looked ridiculous in a pair of acid-washed jeans and an orange T-shirt. Apparently, my group, the men and women in jeans and T-shirts and holding laptops, forced him to dress in that fashion. Attila was near tears, which was absolutely shocking, considering his reputation as a Hun. Even Zeus could not console him. Only Christ managed to soothe the man. Attila smiled broadly at Jesus who blessed him. But the hitch was that Attila was no longer Attila.

The Turks marched forward, some walking, some on horseback. All of them bowed to Christ. I was surprised at this gesture. It is not something we see often in our world. It was only at the meeting that I saw such peculiar sights.

Elizabeth I walked up to the stage straightaway, took up the microphone and said, “In honour of Lord Zeus and his daughters, I would like to declare this meeting to be a superb meeting. I would like to see more such meetings held in the modern world. Also women should have a greater role in everything.” She was the first person to comment on information technology and the many benefits of meeting software. Her aides, Lord Raleigh and Lord Walsingham produced a laptop from somewhere and handed the gadget to her. She opened it and began to type something in it, pretty speedily!

Some Mogul emperors like Akbar, Shah Jehan and Aurangzeb strode across the platform with their heads held high. They waved to the hordes like celebrities do but chose to say nothing. Hitler arrived, a bit late, sought the blessings of Zeus and Christ and announced that he was a ‘changed man’.

I was noticing a distinct trend at the meeting. Only the legendary and the dead were occupying the podium while those of us who are still alive were watching them as spectators. However, Bill Clinton caused much embarrassment to the meeting organizers by jumping onto the dais with a female companion. But Zeus took this sudden liberty in his stride and said instead, “Let the man come up and speak if he wants to.”

Bill Clinton spoke highly of software that helps in meeting management and in business process automation and exhorted everybody present – mythical, dead or alive – to use such meeting management software. He introduced his female companion as Monica something and said that he would not be able to say much more because his wife, Hillary would be waiting for him, back home. Jesus Christ told Bill that he was committing adultery, which is a serious transgression. Bill kept mum. He seemed reluctant to change his ways. Both Christ and Zeus took a grave view of this and looked troubled. However, Attila and Adolf Hitler assured Zeus and Christ that this was no issue, that once Bill died, he would surely alter his ways just as they had done.

Countless eminent grandees arrived at the meeting. It was a feast for the eyes to see them all in person. Lots of delicious food was served to everybody. We gorged on spaghetti, roast turkey, bouillabaisse, lamb quiche, biryani, shepherd’s pie, pilaf, cassoulet, vol-au-vent, sauerkraut, steak, sushi, sashimi, truffles, pudding, black forest cake and ice cream.

Towards the end of the meeting, the lady who was sitting quietly on the other side of Zeus rose. I was waiting for a long time for her to make an entrance onto the stage, as she was my patron and the person who had invited me to the meeting. She was a strikingly beautiful woman, past her youth, but stunning, nonetheless. She seemed detached from her surroundings, not bothered about the adulation she was receiving. Zeus stood up and said, “This, as you know, is my daughter Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom. As she is the wisest of all of us, she will deliver the valedictory speech, the last and final oration of this august meeting!”

Athena stood tall and straight on the stage. A compere, somebody I have seen many times at the Academy Awards, handed her the microphone. Athena cleared her throat.

“Good evening, my friends, my sister Aphrodite, my brother Jesus the Christ, and my father,” she began, “we have come a long, long way from the time we started off as Stone Age and Java, Peking and Neanderthal men and women. My Homo sapien and Paleolithic friends will testify to that,” she said, extending her arm in the direction of the section where the Homo sapiens and the Paleolithic people were seated.

“We have marched steadily forward in civilization because we have met and interacted with one another. Every meeting has taught us something. Even meetings, where we have encountered death and destruction, have had something to teach. Is that not true?” the goddess asked in her commanding as well as mellifluous voice. To which everybody, including me, answered “Aye,” in perfect unison.

“Every meeting that we have experienced has helped us to progress and become more productive. Every meeting has taught us good from bad, right from wrong, even if it has ended in failure. And we have participated and will participate in an infinite number of meetings. When I am asked the question, ‘how significant has the meeting been for humanity?’ I say that the meeting has been immensely significant for us. It has shaped our lives, it has spurred us on to excel, it has enabled us to have control over our destinies. And the meeting minutes that have been generated from the meetings have benefited us tremendously. You cannot bring structure and order unless written records are in place. People of today say that knowledge is power but mere abstract knowledge is useless for society. Knowledge has to be documented properly, chronologically and in an unbiased manner if any inference is to be drawn from such knowledge.

“I am glad that all happenings and events since the dawn of civilization have been chronicled in encyclopedias, journals and historical treatises for the benefit of posterity. Unfortunately, though a large chunk of events has been documented, a large chunk has got lost. It is due to this human lapse that there are large gaps in history. Therefore, I repeat that every meeting should be documented as this one is being,” and she glanced in my direction. I nodded and indicated that I was recording the minutes of the meeting in my meeting software in my laptop.

“Also,” Athena proceeded, “certain meeting management software has come up that is helping people to record meeting minutes easily and swiftly. It has taken us eons to come to the stage when we are able to develop great meeting software. In order to honor all those – Stone Age people, the people of the ancient civilizations, the people of the medieval ages – who have toiled hard and passed knowledge and craftsmanship down the ages so that new-age people can build meeting software, something that they could not in their times, we must ensure that we use this fantastic meeting software. Let the efforts of our predecessors not go in vain. Let us thank them for what they have done and bequeathed to us. The entire history of humankind is nothing but a record of meeting agenda and meeting minutes and this history is replete with examples of the passage and transfer of knowledge so that ultimately humankind wins. The meeting minutes of the ages indicate a celebration of humankind, a celebration of life. Thus the meeting is a celebration of life!”

I had recorded her words verbatim and I have quoted them verbatim too. The meeting was spellbinding. You want to know where you can meet these great folks? You will find them in books and encyclopedias, libraries and archives, on the Internet, if you are fond of shortcuts, saying the same thing in different ways, uttering ultimately one message that all prehistoric, historical and modern events and meetings, tragic or not were and are for the celebration of life. That is how significant the meeting is for us.

Mothering For the Love of Love

30 Jul

When you decide to become a Mother, you really don’t have a personal clue to what mothering is all about! Oh I know, you think you do, after all, you had a mother, you loved her (maybe even still do), but what that represented to you, was clean clothes, supper on the table, running you here and there, putting band aids on your skinned up knees, and someone who cried when you stood in front of the kindergarten class and said two words at the Christmas play!

Now you think mothering is something you want to try! Well, please be advised, when you try it, you had better do your best to get informed beforehand, some of what it entails.

I believe the first thing I can relate to being a mother, is the lack of sleep! Try waking every one and one half hours, to feed a newborn, every night and throughout the day!

Try walking a colicky baby back and forth across the kitchen floor, trying to keep him quiet so Dad can sleep to rise early and get to work! Try changing countless diapers during the day, mixing formula, cleaning house, with baby in a front pack, dozing off just to have baby nap time come to an abrupt end at that precise minute.

Mothering is not something we can fully explain, it is not something you can label then figure you have it all capsulized! It changes with every human being, what we consider a good mom in one household, may vary when entering the next.

In general, when you choose to become a Mother, make certain you choose to Mother for the love of Love! For that is your greatest reward, Love! No matter the style any Mother should adopt, her children will love her at the slightest provocation, just for the sake of love!

Try it, you will love it!

Vitamins And Supplements To Reduce Allergy Symptoms

29 Jul

Allergy symptoms such as sneezing, a running nose, coughing, and watery eyes can make your life very miserable. It is therefore paramount that you find ways to reduce your symptoms so that you can lead a better quality of life. One of the most effective way of boosting your immune system to fight allergies is with consuming vitamins and supplements. Here are some:

- Vitamin C. Vitamin C can act as a mild antihistamine, which can help you to have fewer allergy symptoms when you come into contact with a particular allergen. Two to ten thousand milligrams of this vitamin can be taken in divided doses throughout your day to help keep that antihistamine property throughout the day, since Vitamin C is excreted from the body after four to six hours.

- Beta-carotene. This vitamin works to boost the immune system, which can help you to naturally fight off the histamine or allergy response to specific allergens. Some foods naturally contain beta-carotene, including deep orange vegetables and fruits like papaya or cantaloupe. You can up the intake of these foods or you can choose to take a beta-carotene supplement.

- Magnesium. Magnesium has been found to help make breathing easier. It helps in decreasing the constriction response in the lungs. If this has been one of your allergy symptoms, then magnesium could be an excellent choice for your allergy regimen.

- Vitamin E. Vitamin E is known as an antioxidant that can help boost and increase the effect of your immune system. It has been found very effective in studies in decreasing the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, which an inflammatory response in the nose, eyes, and throat that is caused by allergen exposure.

- Vitamin B Complex. Studies have found that taking Vitamin B Complex can help to reduce your allergy symptoms by half. This is a significant finding, because it can move most allergy symptoms down into a more manageable range that is easier to deal with. Some patients saw their symptoms decrease to almost nothing, which gave them the opportunity to live a normal life for the first time.

Allergy vitamins can strengthen the immune system of your body so that it can work better than before. They can help decrease your histamine response when your body comes into contact with an offending allergen. Taking high quality vitamins and supplements is a much healthier preventative option as compared to treating yourself with over-the-counter medications and/or prescription medications. Be sure to check with your healthcare provider about taking any of the above mentioned vitamins and supplements and their recommended dosages before consumption.

Possibly the biggest problem with treating stress is that people don’t know they are under stress or choose to ignore it as a consequence of working hard to get ahead. In other words they are ignorant or apathetic to the issue of stress.

Should You Consider Orthotics for Your Foot Pain?

28 Jul

Many people with arthritis foot pain benefit from orthotic inserts. Orthotics is the science of constructing or custom designing foot appliances such as arch supports, shoe inserts, shoes, etc., to aid in preventing and correcting deformities that may inhibit normal, comfortable movement in a person. Orthotics also assists in supporting and properly aligning the foot to help improve the overall function of the body’s moveable part.

Although you may think a good athletic shoe (I.E. walking, running) provides you with enough support, this is untrue for someone who suffers or is prone to foot pain. The reason is because while an exceptional shoe can provide your feet with cushioning and motion control, it doesn’t provide adequate arch or heel support, or shock absorption.

Therefore, after you purchase a well-made pair of shoes, you need to take out the insole that came with the shoe, and replace it with an orthotic insole.

What types of foot pain benefit from orthotics? Orthotics are generally recommended for treating those who suffer from the following foot problems causing pain -

- Arch strain and pain

- Bunions

- Calluses

- Corns

- Crooked toes

- Hammer toes

- Heel pain

- Heel spurs

- Metatarsalgia (pain in the ball of the foot)

- Over-pronation

- Plantar fasciitis

Is there more than one type of orthotic insole? Yes. Orthotics come in various sizes and can be used for a number of different shoe styles. However, before we take a look at the different orthotics, keep in mind that not all insoles are orthotics. If the word “orthotic” is not on the packaging, the insoles are not made with the same science. Unlike other insoles, orthotics are designed to mold themselves to the foot when worn. The following are the different types of orthotics -

Functional orthotics – This type of orthotic is designed to correct defects of the arch including over-pronation, common in people with flat feet, and supination, common in people with high arches. Both foot problems can cause heel pain (plantar fasciitis) and puts excessive strain on muscles and joints throughout the back, hip and leg. Functional orthotics provides proper correction of these foot problems.

Supportive orthotics – These orthotics are designed to fix problems that occur in the arch, and provide the arch with proper support.

Weight-dispersive or accommodative orthotics -These orthotics are designed to provide padding and help support sesamoid bones (bones embedded in a tendon) metatarsal heads, collapsed tarsal bones, inflamed toes and sores. They help relieve pain and pressure from these areas.

Where can you obtain orthotic inserts? There are two ways a person can obtain orthotic insoles -

1. Ready-made orthotics -There are a variety of ready-made orthotic insoles sold online and in local super centers, drug stores and pharmacies. Most ready-made orthotic insoles provide arch support and a certain level of correction and cushioning to a person’s step. The following is a list of ready-made orthotic product brand names you can look for – Dr. Scholls, Spenco Insoles, and Footlevelers.

2. Custom orthotics – Custom orthotics will provide you better relief than ready-made orthotics because they are designed specifically for your foot and to treat your specific foot issue. The only problem is custom orthotics are hundreds of dollars, making them significantly more expensive than the ready-made variety.

Custom made orthotics are prescribed by health care professionals such as a family practitioner, chiropractor or podiatrist. The actual fitting of orthotic insoles is done at an orthotics lab by a pedorthist. The pedorthist constructs custom orthotics based on the diagnosis of the doctor and by taking a plaster cast of the patient’s foot.

Despite the type of orthotic insoles you decide to obtain for your feet, remember that you should always have your doctor diagnose your foot pain and ask for recommended treatment options.

Don’t Let Old Man Winter Sneak up on You – Learn How to be Prepared

27 Jul

Life can get pretty busy, but Winter is fast approaching and that first snowfall can come as quite a surprise, especially if you are not prepared for it. Don’t let yourself get caught off-guard. Follow these tips and be prepared.

Winterize your health. Winter is flu season. To give yourself the best chances of avoiding the flu this Winter, now is the time to get a flu shot. While you are at it, why not get a complete physical? Talk to your doctor about what you can do to stay healthy this Winter. Prevention is the best medicine.

If you are looking for a more natural approach to avoiding the flu this Winter, studies have shown that green tea, garlic (available as a pill) and vitamin C are great, natural ways to help prevent the flu. So start treating your body right and stay healthy.

Winterize your home. There are many things you can do to get your home prepared for the cold and snow that accompany winter.

Put away or secure and cover all of your outside furniture. Put away your lawn mower and get out the snow blower or shovels. Make sure they are easy to access for that first snowfall. If you use a snow blower, make sure that it is in good working order. Clean out your gutters. Be sure they are free from leaves and debris which would prevent proper drainage and could result in water damage to your home. Have your sprinkler system blown out to ensure that there is no water left in the lines which could freeze and cause the pipes to burst. Be sure that all storm windows are in place. Check the caulking around all windows and doors. If any is cracked or loose, replace it to prevent drafts. Change your furnace filter and consider having your furnace serviced to be sure it is in good working order. Program your thermostat to keep your home warm enough without wasting energy.
Winterize your vehicle. When you are getting ready for Winter, don’t forget about your vehicle. Here are some things you can do to make sure your vehicle is prepared:

Check your tires. Make sure they have the proper amount of air and that they have enough tread left on them to get enough traction on snow-covered streets. Have your battery checked. Batteries are more likely to fail in the Winter. If you need a new one it is better to know ahead of time. Check to be sure your windshield washer solvent is full and that you have some extra bottles on hand. With slush splattering all over your windshield you can really go through a lot of washer solvent in the Winter. Check your windshield wiper blades and replace them if necessary. Be sure that your vehicle is stocked with snow scrapers and brushes. You may even want to store a small shovel and a bag of sand or kitty litter in the trunk in case you get stuck in the snow.
Winterize your cabinets. Just before Thanksgiving canned goods are typically on sale. Check your local grocery store for good prices and stock up on canned goods and other non-perishable items. If a storm hits unexpectedly you be sure to have enough food to eat until you can make it back out to the store.

Winterize your wardrobe. As with every change in season, now is the time to go through your closets. Make sure your winter coats are easily accessible. Locate all hats, gloves, scarves and boots and move them to the front of the closet. Rearrange your clothes closet to make your warmer clothes easier to access. While you are doing all of this, it is the perfect time to clear out some clutter. If you come across any items that you have not worn bag them up for a charity donation.

Winterize your attitude. Don’t let yourself catch a case of cabin fever. Many people take a trip to a tropical location to get away from the cold and the snow. If this is not a possibility for you, you know what they say – if you can’t beat them, join them. Try to embrace the season. Get out there and have some fun! If you have never been downhill skiing, give it a try. Try cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or sledding. Make a snowman or a snow angel, have a snowball fight or just sit on your couch, wrapped in a warm blanket, sipping a cup of hot cocoa and looking out the window at the beauty of the snow-covered trees.

Have a safe and happy winter.

Keep Moving – Tips For Natural Arthritis Relief

27 Jul

Arthritis affects more than 30 million Americans, resulting in severe pain and disability. While osteoarthritis is the most common type, there are 100 other conditions, which affect joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Rheumatoid arthritis and gout are the other two most familiar types.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that causes the cartilage around joints to break down causing pain, stiffness and disability. As with all the major diseases, inflammation is at the root. However, damage is accelerated by the repetitive action of certain occupations, injuries, family tendency and being overweight.

Your joints have a natural lubricant called synovial fluid. Think of it as your body’s natural WD-40. It carries nutrients to the cartilage, which does not have its own blood supply, and carries waste products away. The more you move your joints, the more this lubricating and nourishing fluid flows through them, increasing their mobility. The less you move your joints, the less fluid flows through them and the less nourishment your cartilage receives. The cartilage begins to deteriorate and that in turn causes the bones to rub together which is what results in pain, stiffness, loss of mobility and finally disability.

In order to get to the root of the problem and not simply manage pain, here are a few suggestions and natural supplements that have been shown to improve the condition as well as relieve pain without the dangers of NSAID drugs.

One of the primary treatments you should consider including is a good source of animal-based Omega-3 fats like krill or cod liver oil. I consider Omega-3′s to be a foundational supplement for everyone because it is so important for so many functions of the body. In the case of osteoarthritis, it is essential for relieving inflammation. You may consider trying glucosamine and chondroitin, which studies have shown to be beneficial, particularly for pain relief and much safer than NSAIDS. The Indian herb, boswellia, has also been shown to be effective in treating joint inflammation. One of the most promising natural substances is a plant enzyme found in pineapple called bromelain. Studies show that enteric-coated bromelain is as effective as common anti-inflammatory drugs in dealing with joint pain.

One of the most important factors for building and maintaining strong, dense bones and keeping joints fluid and healthy is regular exercise. Simply beginning a daily walking program will help keep your bones dense and lubricate your joints. The idea that exercise will damage or hurt your already painful joints is a fallacy. Taking the joints through their full range of motion helps them remain healthy.

Exercise is key for several reasons:

It will strengthen muscles, which support your joints;
It increases the flow of synovial fluid, which nourishes cartilage and improves mobility; and
It will help you lose excess weight, alleviating stress on the joints!

Use common sense and approach the exercise part of this equation gently and gradually. While your muscles may become sore at the beginning of any exercise program, you should not have pain in your joints. Besides walking, swimming, rebounding and yoga have been found to be excellent forms of exercise for arthritis sufferers.

Gout is an arthritic type of pain in your joints. About 75% of people will experience it as an excruciating pain in their big toe. The symptoms of gout (stiff, swollen and painful joints) are due to excess uric acid forming crystals in your joints. The pain results from your body’s inflammatory response to these crystals. As with osteoarthritis, inflammation is the culprit – and as usual, diet is the number one way to decrease inflammation. Recent research shows you can lower your risk of gout by 85% simply by reducing your intake of sugar! As far as using supplements, tart cherries have been found to offer excellent benefits in treating gout. Tart cherries contain two powerful compounds, which have similar activity to aspirin and ibuprofen and help relieve and prevent these conditions.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. It occurs when the body’s immune cells attack and destroy the linings of the joints. One of the most important things you can do is to get adequate vitamin D3 along with omega-3′s, boswellia and tart cherries. Turmeric contains curcumin, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Devil’s Claw is another herb found to be helpful. Keeping your body’s pH as alkaline as possible is also key to reducing inflammation.

Help I Am Allergic To Sulfite

27 Jul

If you have a Sulfite Allergy then you suffer from Allergies Type 1, also called Contact Allergies. Sulfites have been used for centuries as a preservative for drinks, foods and medication. They preserve the color and flavor and increase the shelf life by inhibiting bacterial growth. About 1 percent of the populations are allergic to sulfites. Sulfite allergy reactions tend to manifest in respiratory symptoms.

Prior to seeing any allergy specialist for testing you will need to stop taking any anti-allergy medication or over the counter antihistamines 2 to 3 days before the test are to be performed. Talk to the allergy specialist if you are unsure about any medications that need to be stopped and for how long.

Patients allergic to sulfite rarely show a positive allergic response to skin testing. The most reliable way to test for this allergy is commonly called The Food Challenge. You are told to avoid all sulfite-containing foods for several weeks.

Avoidance can be very difficult because sulfite is often hidden in other foods. Read the labels of every food that you bring into your home. Because the manufacturing processes change continuously re-read the labels each time you purchase a product. On January 1, 2006 a new law was passed stating that all labels should be designed in such a way that a 7-year-old child could read and understand the ingredients.

The doctor will then have you take pills containing sulfite under close supervision. If symptoms appear after ingesting the sulfites then you are allergic to sulfites and will need to avoid anything that has it on the label.

The USFDA requires the labeling of foods containing 10 ppm or more of sulfites and in 1986 the FDA banned the use of sulfites on fruits and vegetables that are eaten raw.

A growing awareness about food allergies is becoming well known in the United States. Food manufactures and restaurants are becoming more understanding and willing to accommodate people living with food allergies.

Living with any food allergy is no longer a major undertaking; it is now just a minor adjustment to your life-style. You will need to avoid baked goods, Soups, jams, canned vegetables, pickles, potato chips, dried fruit, trail mix, most condiments, shrimp, guacamole and anything that has sulfite, sodium bisulfite, sodium metabisulfite, potassium bisulfite and potassium metabisulfite on the label.

Some of the common vitamins used to treat sulfite allergy symptoms are Vitamins C, Quercetin, and Bromelain.

Vitamin C is nature’s protective nutrient, essential for defending the body against pollution and infection and enhances the bodies immune system. Take 1,000 to 5,000 mg daily.

Quercitin is a well known flavonoid. Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants and can reduce inflammation boost the immune system and strengthen blood vessels and improve circulation. Quercitin is also known for its ability to block the release of histamines, thus reducing or preventing allergy symptoms. Take 500 mg twice daily.

Bromellain will enhance the absorption of Quercetin. Take 100 mg twice daily.

Always consult your doctor before using this information.

Can Anyone In America Still Become President Of The United States Of America? Yes!

26 Jul

Isn’t it time you ran for President?

In the 1990s everyone had a talk show. In the 2008 presidential election it seems as if everyone is running for president. But when we get to the primaries we find that the same names keep coming up winners every election cycle. John Kerry, Hillary or Bill Clinton, George Bush (1 or 2), John Edwards, and the list goes on. Whatever happened to the American dream of anyone becoming president? Further, in today’s climate of the professional politician, how is a grass roots candidate ever going to get a real chance at our nation’s highest office?

The answer lies within the World Wide Web. For the first time any American born citizen over the age of 35 has a real chance to build a following, generate contributions and run for president. And I believe over the next two or three election cycles, enough people will have access to the web, and the trust factor will build to the point to make it a viable medium for a real campaign. What is needed is a single website to bring all these candidates together, and allow the general public to evaluate them, and score them. This will separate the wheat from the chaff, and allow the engaged citizen to direct his support resources to a handful of candidates with the best chance for jump starting a political career.

There is such a website. U4prez.com has attracted over 2100 presidential candidates in just four months. These citizen candidates come from all walks of life, and represent a diversity of opinion not available anywhere else on television, newsprint, radio, or the web. All of this took place a year and a half before the election of 2008, which bodes quite well for the future.

Is it working? Are the candidates being seen and heard? More than you can imagine. In this same period of time the candidates platforms have been viewed over four million times. And nearly one half million votes have been cast. Voting is done simply by rating the candidate on a scale of 1 to 10. While the average candidate has been voted on 250 times, several candidates have received over 5000 votes. It is only a matter of time (perhaps just months) before one of these candidates breaks out and generates a critical mass of supporters. When this happens, the candidate will have the ability to raise money, raise awareness to a level compatible with “real” candidates, and begin a run in earnest for president.

At this point it is highly unlikely that a candidate could emerge and win the presidency in 2008. Several candidates have however launched campaigns for governor, mayor, and city council using the site has a test bed for floating ideas and generating support. The 2012 election offers a much better chance for a real grass roots candidate to mount a successful campaign, and by 2020 it all but inevitable that a dark horse candidate will not only challenge, but win the presidency.

Is this good for the country? Absolutely. The professional politician today, despite all of the media channels available, has become more detached from the center of America than ever before. The chicken dinners, and other meet the people events have become highly scripted both in speech, and in the operation of the event. Candidates no longer interact with the populous in any meaningful way. U4prez.com changes that. The candidates are questioned in real time, and must respond to pointed questions. The debate on the site goes back to the roots of Lincoln Douglas and other famous debates that can go on for hours. A sixty second sound bite simply will not suffice. This allows the dialogue to incorporate tangential issues, and gives the potential voter a much better understanding of the candidates position, and character.

So who is winning the race? As of mid-July the national candidates are dominated by Fred Thompson on the Republican side, and Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama are close leaders on the Democratic side. But Ron Paul, a relatively unknown Republican also generates solid support, and draws from Democrats, Republicans and independents. The really interesting thing is the number of average Joe (and Mary) candidates that generate just as much, or even more support than the top tier candidates.

What issues are hot? If you watch the news on television or read newspapers you would assume global warming is the biggest issue of the day. You would be wrong. With over 300,000 comments posted on issues, Global warming is one of the least discussed issues. The top issues are the Mexican border wall, the war in Iraq, abortion, and education.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to lead this great nation you might want to head over to U4prez.com and begin your campaign. Or you can register as a voter and jump in to the debates. Registration is fairly simple, you just need a user name and a sound bite. For those more serious candidates you can customize your platform, and add as much detail as you’d like about your positions, and political preferences.
