Arthritis – How Exercise Effects

31 Aug

This look at arthritis and exercise is a look at exercise from the point of view of one who has suffered with arthritis and has studied the philosophy of Natural Hygiene, in relation to how our bodies were designed to function.

You have heard the saying “no pain no gain”.

To a limited extent that is very true. As long as you don’t do more damage in a day than your body can repair you can gain a lot by exercising.

As I have said in the article;

Arthritis has two main causes, inorganic minerals and uric acid.

Movement of the joints increases the flow of fluids in the joints. You could compare the difference between a sedentary lifestyle, and an active lifestyle, to that of a stream. When the stream is flowing rapidly, the sediment is washed down stream and the rock bed is fairly clean. When the stream gets backed up, the sediment settles out and the stones are covered with muck.

Exercise helps to flush out the uric acid and inorganic minerals from the joints. This will slow the brake down of cartilage and the formation of crystals in the joints.

If there are crystals in the joints, exercise will break them up and grind them down small enough to be flushed out.

Another benefit to exercise for the arthritic is that the increased flow of fluids to the joint brings more nutrients to the joints to aid in healing.

The author of the article “Does-Running-Cause-Arthritis”; [http://www.runnersworld.com/article/printer_friendly/0],5046,s6-197-0-0-9247,00.html
Points out that “exercise is a biomechanical process”. It is not the same as a mechanical process.

We were designed to move. If we don’t move our joints, like a stagnant stream, we accumulate a lot of garbage in our joints and connective tissue.

One caution. Start Slow.

We don’t want to do more damage in one day, than you can repair in a night.

Before you start to run, if that is what you wish to do, I would suggest that you start with walking. Walk for a half hour. 15 minutes out and 15 minutes back. Keep doing that until you can walk 2 miles in that half hour before you try running.

If you have more pain the morning after you may want to slow down. However, Don’ts quit. Personally I would recommend the walking every day just to keep the fluids flowing in your joints.

If running is your goal you should work up to it. Don’t try to run a marathon the first time out.

One final note; I have worked and exercised before and after overcoming arthritis. Before I stopped causing arthritis, it was easy to make it worse by overdoing it. I do not recommend taking painkillers, so you can hide the pain while you exercise. If you cannot feel the pain you can do great damage. I know from experience.

Since I stopped causing arthritis, exercise has never made the pain worse. It has only made it better the following day. You just have to be careful.

When I do too much of the things that cause arthritis, and the pain starts to return, exercise, along with removal of cause, always makes recovery time shorter.

13 Ideas to Make More Money at Your School Carnival

29 Aug

A school carnival is one of the best ways to raise money and build community spirit for your school. So many schools have yearly carnivals that it is easy to fall into a familiar pattern of repetition each year. The following suggestions are meant to help you shake your event up a little and to start thinking of new ways to increase your profits.

BUILD YOUR CARNIVAL AROUND A REALLY GOOD THEME

By selecting a different theme for your carnival each year, it both keeps your families interested and engaged, and also it forces your planning committee to develop new ideas for games, events, costumes, food choices, etc. The selection of a theme is the foundation for the rest of your carnival planning. It is vital to keep your auction from becoming predictable each year.

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

It is important to know what kind of people will be attending your carnival. This demographic knowledge will help you in deciding what kind of a theme to choose and what kind of activities will make you the most money. Basically, make sure you are giving your audience what they want. If karaoke is popular, give them a karaoke booth. If a football throwing competition would be popular, give them that. If you think silly string would be a big seller, have plenty of that on hand and mark it up.

THINK LIKE A GUERILLA (MARKETER)

The key to making a lot of money at your carnival is to have lots of people there. Make sure you have an excellent team in charge of getting the word out. First, utilize every method of free publicity: press release, road-side banners, lots of fliers in shops over town, church bulletins, etc. Also let your school families know how important attendance is and that their efforts in bringing others to the event is encouraged and appreciated. After you have exhausted these low or no cost means of advertising, perhaps you can consider a well-placed paid advertisement in the local paper or radio station. Only do this if you’ve had success in the past and can afford it. There are so many means of cheap marketing.

SECURITY AT DOORS = PARENTS FEEL SAFE

Once parents have arrived, they want to make sure their kids are safe to run around. This sense of security will go a long way toward making mom and dad comfortable and willing to spend more money. I know that if I’m constantly worried about where my kids are and what they are breaking, I’ll be looking at the clock and planning my exit strategy. I’m not going to drop a lot of dough. Make sure to have volunteers specifically assigned to the front doors to make sure no one escapes. I would also station a male and female adult by the bathrooms to make sure no trouble happens there. Try to imagine any place there could be trouble in your physical space and solve the problem before it happens.

SEEK A WIDE VARIETY OF DONATIONS

One way to make money is to not spend it in the first place. Therefore, do everything in your power to get food and supplies donated. This process should happen very early in your planning. Seek out natural connections within your school community. Who knows, one of your sudent’s dad might own a company that rents out inflatable bounce houses and would be willing to rent them to you for free. You won’t know until you check. Make sure to give out a lot of recognition (both verbally and through prominent signage) to all those who helped, and make sure that a committee takes responsibility for sending out thank you letters to every single person or business that helped you during the carnival.

CHARGE FOR VENDOR BOOTHS

In addition to the rides, games, and scheduled entertainment at the carnival, there is an opportunity to provide parents and kids with another great experience: vendor booths. You can sell booth space ( can be as simple as 8′ folding tables) to local business who want to market to your specific audience. You can also require the vendors provide some kind of freebie or activity to whoever visits their booth. Pencils, Frisbees, coloring books, etc- and they can put their logo on everything they give away. They can pass out coupons as well. This is a great marketing opportunity for the business and it adds to the overall excitement of the event. If you get enough vendors, you can also make some decent money off of it. If you charge $100 per booth and get 12 booths, you just made $1,200 pure profit. And, $100 for such a great marketing opportunity is not out of reach for many local businesses. I have even heard of carnivals with booths set up for health and wellness information, including free flu shots, blood pressure screenings, for example. You can give price breaks on booths to non-profit groups, if you wish. The more booths = more excitement.

SELL TICKETS FOR EVERYTHING- KEEPS CASH AT A MINIMUM

Take a cue from most arcades out there today, convert cash into tokens or tickets whenever possible. This accomplishes two important purposes. 1) It prevents individual booths from having to handle and secure cash. With all the excitement and activity, why take a risk on cash being lost, stolen, or mishandled in any way? 2) People are much more likely to spend tokens or tickets freely than real cash money. It’s a psychological thing.

TAKE PLASTIC

Even though you may lose a few percentage points for the transaction, I recommend setting your carnival up to accept debit and credit cards for tickets and maybe some of the higher price add-ons you have. This way you avoid the situation of a parent running out of cash, even though they still want to make that last minute purchase. Don’t lose that sale!

PLAN SOMETHNG FOR EVERYBODY

In your planning, make sure that you include activities for everyone. For instance, you may get lots of younger siblings. It would be wise in this instance to set aside a safe area for them to crawl and play without having big kids risk accidentally hurting them. A few gym mats, some baby toys, a fence of some kind, and chairs for parents could be all that you need. Even if you offer this toddlers’ area for free, you are doing a service for parents who won’t have to spend money on babysitters or feel rushed to leave, due to their younger children. On the other hand, it would also be wise to provide lots of seating areas and coffee (decaf) for grandmas and grandpas. Make sure that nobody feels uncomfortable or un-catered to. The more people through your door, the more ticket revenue you pick up.

BOOK A GREAT EMCEE

I am a strong believer in designating someone to serve as the overall host or emcee for the event. Give this guy or gal a wireless mic and let him or her use charm, humor, prodding, and enthusiasm to get people having a great time and spending money. Don’t settle for a bland voice telling people the talent show starts in five minutes. Get a person who will have the natural ability to hype it up. The emcee can also call attention to booths that aren’t doing well and need attention. Just make sure that the emcee doesn’t cross the line into being obnoxious. This can be a tall order, but if you get the right person, it can make a world of different to your event.

FOOD, FOOD, FOOD

Basically, forget everything else I’ve written. It’s really just all about the food. People love to eat and they’ll spend money to do it. Offer as many choices and styles as you can think of. If people like to eat it and it’s convenient to mass produce and serve, do it! I really don’t think you can over-do it on the food.

This is an opportunity to really hype up a specific item. For instance, this could be the only time all year that third grade teacher Mrs. Riley makes her world-famous elephant ears. Your school carnival is the only place on Earth to get them. “Tell your friends and family! Don’t miss this once a year chance!”

(Remember to get as much of the food donated as you can, because it would then be 100% profit!)

OFFER LOTS OF PLACES TO SPEND MONEY

Besides selling tickets for games and food, think about ways you can sell additional items. I know of carnivals who have successfully sold student designed t-shirts, school community recipe/cookbooks, family photos, and raffle tickets, to name a few. Also, look at the Oriental Trading Company Catalog for very inexpensive items that kids love to have. Silly string for instance is a great seller. You can even set up a little store for any of the above mentioned items. Don’t miss any opportunity to get people to spend their hard-earned dollars for your school.

LEVERAGE THE “CELEBRITY” OF TEACHERS, PRINCIPAL

Kids are always amazed to see their teachers in any situation out of the classroom. I remember thinking that my elementary school teachers actually lived at school. They couldn’t possibly have a life in the “real world”. To run into one of them at the grocery store was like running into a movie star or the President of the United States. You will be sure to have a hit activity anytime you can put a teacher in a funny situation. Think dunk tank or pie throwing, etc. Maybe the principal could get his head shaved if a certain level of money is raised that night.

Conclusion

The school carnival is a great opportunity for your community to come together, develop relationships, and raise some much needed money for your school. Be as creative as you can in selecting a popular theme and planning activities that will accomplish your fundraising goals. Good luck!

Best Treatments For Arthritis – Conventional Treatments For Arthritis Pain Relief

29 Aug

Arthritis, though may not be termed as a very serious illness is definitely a very difficult one for those suffering from severe forms of the disease. There has been a large amount of research done on arthritis and medical practitioners have suggested several treatments for the same. Before analyzing what are the best treatments for arthritis one must need to know what we are trying to achieve or what the objectives of a good arthritis treatment are.

The goals or aims of any arthritis treatment are to relieve pain or any kind of inflammation, to ensure that work life of the person is not affected, advancement in disease is reduced and one is able to be independent as well as have a good quality of life. Hence the best treatments of arthritis would be those which fulfill these goals to the fullest extent.

Some of the conventional treatments for arthritis pain relief are as follows:

Educating and supporting the patient, teaching the importance of joint protection, regular exercise and weight loss.

Some of the most familiar medications for arthritis over the years are Tylenol for pain relief and NSAID’s like Advil, Ibuprofen, naproxen etc in case pain is intolerable. NSAID’s are said to have adverse side effects like gastro intestinal problems and even headache and giddiness. The sad part is that though these drugs relieve pain temporarily they prevent the synthesis of collagen eventually accelerating the destruction of cartilage and causing more severe arthritis.

In case the patient is suffering from inflammations COX 2 inhibitors are used. In case of swollen joints the fluid is removed and a steroid injection is given.

In case you need to replace the joint it self then one may need to go for surgery.

Now medical practitioners are insisting on more natural methods of treating arthritis that have proved more effective than conventional methods. Firstly arthritis varies from person to person and needs to be treated individually. What worked for someone else may not work for you. A healthy balanced diet with plenty of calcium to strengthen the bones can work wonders. You may think of nutritional supplements like antioxidant nutrients that reduce the loss of cartilage and advancement of disease. A good dosage of glucose amine for at least two months will help an elderly person as the ability to produce this component of cartilage gradually deteriorates with aging. One may also ensure that they include Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, zinc copper and boron as all these contribute to cartilage regeneration and any deficiency causes damage.

Even exercises need to be person specific. Do not do exercises which will apply more stress on your joints or which will end up in more severe pain. Mild stretching, massage and heat application may help relieve stress to a certain extent. It is important to remember to consult your medical practitioner before taking any treatment. The other new treatment being introduced is herbal treatment. These treatments have proved to be more effective and have lesser side effects than other drugs in the long run. Whatever may be the severity of arthritis the best treatment is a positive mind, good exercising and a healthy balanced diet.

Honestly Open About Your Past And God Committment With Marriage-Minded Internet Inquirers

28 Aug

It seems that about every time that I set out on my computer – to answer a e-mail – I end up writing an ezine article too that the – intended to be brief – message has stimulated.

What I see that develops is information to support what The Lord wants conveyed to one or more of His earthly children. Perhaps, you are one of them?

What follows – is such an article. It was written in response to a e-mail that I received which begged my martial life history. LOL

I once had a wife with whom I went to see a family counselor. A judge had so-ordered counseling because he had awarded me custody of my then 3rd-grade son.

Until then, I didn’t think that the “Great Gal” that I had married – four months previous – and I had any problems. To cinch my custody battle suit I had married my 2nd wife after a she-lived-with-me relationship of 4-years. Although I didn’t allow myself to “Really” love her – we married because I wanted my son (I was then 5-years divorced from my 1st wife to whom I had been previously married for 9 years).

I knew that our obvious stability (me owning a new home, 3-art stores ~ her owning an answering service, the publishing company, and she very much “In love” with me) would assure the court mine was the best environment for my son. LOL. This incident followed my victory in court – the following week.

Anyway, at the end of or 1st session, the Dr. gave us some papers to fill out by which to determine our compatibility – while we were at home that next week. We were told to discuss our real feelings – likes and dislikes goals and aspirations, even our dreams with each other – which we faithfully did.

When we returned the following Wednesday evening for the 2nd session – which turned out to be the last – the good Dr. asked, “Did you two discover anything out about yourselves – and each other – that will affect your marriage?”

I answered him after my talkative wife had “rattled on” for about 5-minutes: “Yes Dr.” I said. “As a mater-of-fact, I want a divorce.”

Both the medical professional and my 2nd wife were stunned. I was relieved. 24-hours later we had purchased, completed, and submitted (filed-for) a “Do-it-yourself” divorce.

I have been known to make fast, deceive decisions and to take immediate actions when I understand the solutions to – and recognize – the scope of my problems.

The day that my 2nd divorce was final, I met my 3rd wife at a PWP (Parents Without Partners) meeting. It was the 1st PWP function that I’d ever attended. Yes, I can take immediate actions also when I see something that I want.

We ended up married, I adopted my two daughters, we had a bonus baby 10 years later, I changed careers and professions – God-only-knows – how many times and we spent a total of about 17 years together. I have been a pretty dependable provider most of the time.

It was early in that relationship that I got “Saved” and did a bunch of things that sincere “Baby Christians” do. I had a “Burning Desire” to become a minister. My wife informed me while I was pursuing that avocation – immersed solely in “The Bible” and related study materials for two years – that she did not want to be married to a minister.

The Lord told me that it was alright. That I could get a job then – so I went back into the world – and found “Respectable” work. We were divorced after my 3rd wife got tired of my refusing to file income tax for about 10-years. LOL. After we were divorced, I caught up my filings. All-in-all, I can say, “That was a pretty good marriage as we both came away from it broke but pleased with the great children that we had been allowed to parent.”

While many of my decisions have not been what would be regarded by conventional Christendom as wise – My Lord knew me. I was rarely – if ever – far from His preplanned script for my “Early’ life.

Yeah, I’ve had to endure some challenges – like some very hard years with MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Yet my faith – that I would be healed or would one day be “Cured” of that dread “Incurable” disease – never wavered. And so I have been. I accepted my successful health restoration operation in mid-May of 2006. LOL Jesus had already paid-in-full for the procedure over 2,000 years ago.

You know that Jacob walked with a limp after wrestling with God. Perhaps, you will understand the parallels that I perceive – to my own life experiences – in this part of Jacobs story?

‘(CEV) Genesis 32:1 As Jacob was on his way back home, some of God’s angels came and met him. 2 When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is God’s camp.” So he named the place Mahanaim. 3 Jacob sent messengers on ahead to Esau, who lived in the land of Seir, also known as Edom. 4 Jacob told them to say to Esau, “Master, I am your servant! I have lived with Laban all this time, 5 and now I own cattle, donkeys, and sheep, as well as many slaves. Master, I am sending these messengers in the hope that you will be kind to me.” 6 When the messengers returned, they told Jacob, “We went to your brother Esau, and now he is heading this way with four hundred men.” 7 Jacob was so frightened that he divided his people, sheep, cattle, and camels into two groups. 8 He thought, “If Esau attacks one group, perhaps the other can escape.” 9 Then Jacob prayed: You, LORD, are the God who was worshiped by my grandfather Abraham and by my father Isaac. You told me to return home to my family, and you promised to be with me and make me successful.

10 I don’t deserve all the good things you have done for me, your servant. When I first crossed the Jordan, I had only my walking stick, but now I have two large groups of people and animals. 11 Please rescue me from my brother. I am afraid he will come and attack not only me, but my wives and children as well. 12 But you have promised that I would be a success and that someday it will be as hard to count my descendants as it is to count the stars in the sky. 13 After Jacob had spent the night there, he chose some animals as gifts for Esau: 14 15 two hundred female goats and twenty males, two hundred female sheep and twenty males, thirty female camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, and twenty female donkeys and ten males. 16 Jacob put servants in charge of each herd and told them, “Go ahead of me and keep a space between each herd.” 17 Then he said to the servant in charge of the first herd, “When Esau meets you, he will ask whose servant you are. He will want to know where you are going and who owns those animals in front of you. 18 So tell him, “They belong to your servant Jacob, who is coming this way. He is sending them as a gift to his master Esau.’ ” 19 Jacob also told the men in charge of the second and third herds and those who followed to say the same thing when they met Esau. 20 And Jacob told them to be sure to say that he was right behind them. Jacob hoped the gifts would make Esau friendly, so Esau would be glad to see him when they met. 21 Jacob’s men took the gifts on ahead of him, but he spent the night in camp.

22 23 Jacob got up in the middle of the night and took his wives, his eleven children, and everything he owned across to the other side of the Jabbok River for safety. 24 Afterwards, Jacob went back and spent the rest of the night alone. A man came and fought with Jacob until just before daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not win, he struck Jacob on the hip and threw it out of joint. 26 They kept on wrestling until the man said, “Let go of me! It’s almost daylight.” “You can’t go until you bless me,” Jacob replied. 27 Then the man asked, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. 28 The man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob. You have wrestled with God and with men, and you have won. That’s why your name will be Israel.” 29 Jacob said, “Now tell me your name.” “Don’t you know who I am?” he asked. And he blessed Jacob. 30 Jacob said, “I have seen God face to face, and I am still alive.” So he named the place Peniel. 31 The sun was coming up as Jacob was leaving Peniel. He was limping because he had been struck on the hip, 32 and the muscle on his hip joint had been injured. That’s why even today the people of Israel don’t eat the hip muscle of any animal.’

The Lord gave me my name, Rascal, before creation. Yet he did not reveal it to me until shortly before He healed me of MS. I had wrestled against God, man, and women throughout all of my early life. While achieving some excellent – by the world’s standards – success, owned retail stores, wholesale businesses, worked for (during that year) the # 1 employee rated company in the United States, published both poetry books and a novel, held professional insurance and real estate licenses, and even owned my own real estate company – I never was fully satisfied – until recently – in my career life or business endeavors.

Now, I AM! The Lord has fulfilled my deepest desire as He Had promised. ‘(NASB) Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.’

“You became a Minster?” You might ask.

Well, sort of. The Lord called me to be An Apostle, “His playfully mischievous Apostle, Rascal”. My flock is mainly scattered – having been widely dispersed by Him. Some are very able to follow their Master. Like His more wayward sheep, often they graze daily on the special grains that He scatters by various ministries and loving family members, or on-line friends. Yet He has called me to feed some of His flock through “Inspired” EzineArticles and utilization of cyber-space vessels.

With the Internet – that He created for this purpose – I have freedom to proclaim His messages at anytime that I feel led too. It is now 3:51 A.M. and I’m having a great time with My Lord and Master Shepherd. LOL Whatever the time is that you are reading this, He is having a great time with you – right now. Praise The Lord!

I will quote here The Good Shepherd – as to what He has said of His people and mine – to those of you cyber-space-cadets with ears to hear what He and I say:

37 Everything and everyone that the Father has given me will come to me, and I won’t turn any of them away. 38 I didn’t come from heaven to do what I want! I came to do what the Father wants me to do. He sent me, 39 and he wants to make certain that none of the ones he has given me will be lost.

Yes, The Lord talks with you too. Isn’t it curious that none of those close ones – those who should know you best – really understand?

My marital needs are yet to be fulfilled. Perhaps, this is why – in part – I’ve been instructed to publish this article into the Romance section? So that The Lord’s lady – that He’s prepared for me – will see this and initiate contact. LOL She’ll likely hunt me down via one of my websites like Jesus4You.ws or one of my others.

I’m open to receive prepaid tickets for an all expense paid vacation with her. I’ll likely bring my wheelchair or handicapped scooter because the walking aspect of such an encounter would distract us both from the full enjoyment of each others company – during the would-otherwise-have-to-walk elements of our get to know each other our romantic encounter.

This Lord’s Lady needs to be aware that I also wear hearing aids – having been born a “Deafie” with a 70 % hearing deficiency in both ears. Yeah, the amplification really works for me – everywhere except on a telephone. One wishing to speak to me personally must do so via telephony such as is available at no charge through Yahoo or Skype – allowing me to hear pretty well through my headset that has speakers which encompass both of my ears.

Hey – if she can swing it – I love cruise ships and I haven’t been aboard one for probably 10-years. Since we would be totally isolated – and I don’t have a laptop or talk on telephones – we could really get to know each other without any distractions. Just a thought.

Well, I should close this with some scriptures. Ones that are applicable to my original mission of answering honestly a lovely lady’s e-mail which in effect asked for personal details about my martial background. How are these?

‘(NASB) Psalms 51:6 Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.’

‘(NASB) Psalms 103:5 Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Hey – I like that one :) She will too. As I figure that our marriage should hold together for another 60-years or so – unless Our Master comes for us sooner – we can look forward to the “Good things” and having our “Youth renewed.”

I understand that by the time that she has gotten old an eagle looks pretty rough. Her beak has become chipped and gnarly. Her once shiny feathers – now tattered – are in a state of severe disrepair. She has an option to die. Or, some survivors are favored to go to a high, secluded place, pluck out old quills one-at-a-time and there she smashes her old beak to pieces against the rocks.

Well – wouldn’t you know it – when she sprouts new feathers – they glisten. And when her new beak grows back – it is smooth, free of cracks and wrinkles. She has all of the wisdom that her hard early years has provided her and by then has learned to be easier on herself. Sounds like a pretty good promise to me. LOL

I would consider, “How to be honestly open about God with marriage-minded Internet inquirers is a worthy, -possibly liberating – challenge
(NASB) John 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Curing an Iron Deficiency

24 Aug

Iron is a part of many enzymes and is used in many cell functions. Enzymes help our bodies digest foods and also help with many other important reactions that occur within our bodies. Iron deficiency anemia is common, especially in women. One in five women and half of all pregnant women are iron deficient. Iron deficiency is the most common known form of nutritional deficiency. In the human body, iron is present in all cells and has several vital functions — as a carrier of oxygen to the tissues from the lungs in the form of hemoglobin, as a transport medium for electrons within the cells in the form of cytochromes, and as an integral part of enzyme reactions in various tissues. Total body iron averages approximately 3.8 g in men and 2.3 g in women. There are several mechanisms that control human iron metabolism and safeguard against iron deficiency. The main regulatory mechanism is situated in the gastrointestinal tract. Iron stores normally passes through several stages. Stage 1 – Lowered iron stores: stores are reduced, but not exhausted, and there are no clinical effects. Stage 2 – Iron depletion: Biochemical deficiency without anaemia.

Stage 3 – Iron deficiency anaemia : with no iron left in the marrow, haemoglobin production falls to the point where haemoglobin concentration is below the reference range. Iron deficiency is a concern because it can iron deficiency can delay normal infant motor function (normal activity and movement) or mental function (normal thinking and processing skills). Iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy can increase risk for small or early (preterm) babies.7-8 Small or early babies are more likely to have health problems or die in the first year of life than infants who are born full term and are not small. Iron deficiency can cause fatigue that impairs the ability to do physical work in adults. There can be a great difference between iron intake and iron absorption, also known as bioavailability. Epinephrine is used to counter anaphylactic shock, and Chelation therapy is used to manage secondary iron overload. Microencapsulation with lecithin, which binds and protects the iron particles from the action of inhibiting substances.

Iron almost always turns stools black, which is a harmless side effect. Iron can be given by injection, but this usually isn’t necessary. Iron deficiency can have serious health consequences that diet may not be able to quickly correct, and iron supplementation is often necessary if the iron deficiency has become symptomatic. Iron from nonheme sources is more readily absorbed if consumed with foods that contain either heme-bound iron or vitamin C. Legumes and dark-green leafy vegetables like spinach are especially good sources of iron for vegetarians and vegans. Iron bioavailability comparisons require stringent controls, because the largest factor affecting bioavailability is the subject’s existing iron levels. Fortification with ascorbic acid, which increases bioavailability in both presence and absence of inhibiting substances, but which is subject to deterioration from moisture or heat. Ascorbic acid fortification is usually limited to sealed dried foods, but individuals can easily take ascorbic acid with basic iron supplement for the same benefits.

Iron Deficiency Treatment Tips

1. Venesection and avoidance of excess iron (particularly in iron supplements).

2. Medications, such as oral contraceptives to lighten heavy menstrual flow.

3. Antibiotics and other medications to treat peptic ulcers.

4. Eating plenty of iron-containing foods is particularly important for people who have higher iron requirements, such as children and menstruating or pregnant women.

5. Foods rich in iron include red meat, seafood, poultry and eggs.

6. Plant-based foods also are good sources of iron, although they’re less easily absorbed.

7. Surgery to remove a bleeding polyp, a tumor or a fibroid.

Golf Swing Trainers Are A Dime A Dozen

23 Aug

The golf training aid market is a booming market. Golfers are rabid and will pay any amount of money in hopes to play better golf. There is a new golf swing trainer coming out every month it seems like!

I am not against the use of training aids, but am a little skeptical with all the promises some of them make during their commercials or in their print ads. They all promise more distance, accuracy and lower scores.

There are several “tried-and-true” golf swing trainers I still use today that I got over 8 years ago. They are very effective and great to go back to if your swing goes south on you, but some of the newer ones are hokey and not effective.

The most important thing to look at is what the swing trainer does. Is it close to actual movement of a golf swing? Does it seem logical for your golf swing fault? Is it reasonably priced? Can you try it first before you buy it?

There are several out there right now that do not mimic the golf swing and ingrain poor swing mechanics and improper muscle memory habits. I will not bad-mouth that they are, but if it doesn’t closely resemble a mechanically sound golf swing, it is not worth spending the money on.

Results! The bottom line!

In the end…did it improve your particular swing fault? Were you able to take it to the course and actually make good swings for 18 holes? So many times golfers buy these golf swing trainers, use them a couple of times, and never see results.

You cannot ever blame the training aid if you don’t use it!

Like anything…do it consistently to give it a fair chance. Make a point to use it daily at first. Most of things swing trainers can be used right in your home or even your office, so it’s very convenient to use.

The Masked Allergy and Symptoms

21 Aug

These differ from the conventional allergy as they are frequently exhibited in a masked form. For this reason, clinical ecology has been slow in gaining medical acceptance. However, these days the doctor specializing as a clinical ecologist is gaining recognition in Europe and the United States. Speaking on the situation in Australia, Professor Ian Lewis of the University of Tasmania says that the current medical training is not geared towards producing doctors that can solve problems. He feels that doctors should be taught to consider alternatives to drug therapy, rather than be over crammed with factual knowledge. This may lead, in time, to a resumption in use of the physician’s greatest historical tool – a thorough investigation of the patient’s diet and environment.

In effect, ecological illness is one large allergy. Most people today have it, to varying degrees. Within this general malaise, more specific allergies or sensitivities occur. Invariably however, exposure to the allergen does not produce an immediate or detectable response. Symptoms tend to be masked and therefore very difficult to trace back to a specific cause. For this reason most doctors are not able to diagnose a food or chemical sensitivity occurring as a masked allergy. Their lack of training, understanding and interest in this area compounds the difficulty in obtaining a correct diagnosis. Time and time again masked allergy symptoms are diagnosed as something quite different. The symptom is then treated by the doctor and the cause remains undetected. This approach will quieten the symptom for a while but it will continue to flare up regularly until the individual is classified as a chronic sufferer. The sufferer is then often placed on the strongest drug available, on a semi-permanent basis, and told to live with it. Meanwhile, the allergy remains undetected, and the build-up in toxins causes further suffering and damage to an already weakened system. In the words of Drs Kenyon and Lewith -

“Masked allergy may exhibit itself by a patient being exposed to a common food such as wheat, daily. No clear reactions to the wheat are shown in the patient’s symptoms; for instance the patient does not exhibit an acute asthmatic wheeze after eating a slice of bread, or urticaria after eating biscuits. But a symptom complex which may involve asthma, accompanied by general malaise and depression, or osteoarthritis accompanied by headaches, may be the presenting complaints. The patient avoids wheat for a period of five days then, if the wheat is the major allergen, the symptoms will usually disappear. Re-exposure after this period of time will often induce an acute recurrence of the symptoms. This recurrence may occur immediately or twenty-four hours after re-exposure.”

It is easy to see why masked allergies and symptoms continue to baffle the modern doctor. It would not be an exaggeration to claim that many doctors do not understand this process and, as a result, many of their patients are being treated for asthma, skin problems, lethargy, irritability, digestive problems and a whole range of symptoms whilst the real cause, the masked allergy, goes undetected.

Evolution of the Sauna

21 Aug

For centuries, saunas have been used to relax and rejuvenate the body and mind as well as provide a wide variety of health benefits. In recent years, the use of saunas have increased significantly with new sauna technologies being developed such as the infrared sauna which has provided even more health benefits. To understand how the sauna developed, it is helpful to know its origination and evolution.

Historical documentation shows that around 2000 years ago, the Finnish were avid users of the sauna. They were a primitive sauna that consisted of pits in the ground where people sat during the cold winters for warmth. There was a fireplace where stones were placed and then heated until they were red hot. People would sit naked and relax in the heat. They were also used as a type of bathing method. It was not until the 19th century that more advanced saunas were built in Finland. These advance saunas had wooden log walls, a roof, and a door. Originally known as Savusauna (smoke sauna), they produced smoke which escaped through vents and thereby did not harm sauna users. Although difficult to clean and a potential risk of fire, these ground smoke saunas were the foundation for future saunas. These saunas were also used as a place to give birth and care for the sick. Eventually, sauna users began drizzling water over the stones which caused steamed to be produced.

In late 1800′s, another type of sauna was developed. With this type of sauna, a metal top covered the stones and it was affixed to a chimney where the smoke was dispersed outdoors. The temperature of the sauna was controlled by closing and opening a small door. As well, the amount of rocks used and the intensity of the fire helped control the temperature. The benefits of using this type of sauna became widely known with many being installed on the property of homeowners. By late 1920′s, urban areas began building saunas for the community to use. World War II saw an even bigger increase in the construction of saunas.

As technology advanced, electrical stoves began to be used in saunas in Finland in the mid-20th century. It became popular because it was convenient and fewer trees wasted. Stones were still heated and water was still sprinkled over the stones to produce steam. Over time, as people became more aware of the health benefits of maintaining proper hygiene, saunas were improved. Throughout the years and in different cultures, there were a variety of different types of saunas used. For instance, the Turkish hammam or steam bath, Native American inipi or sweat lodge, Russian banya, and the Roman thermae or public bath, were used.

Today, innovations in technology have resulted in the development of infrared heat therapy saunas. The infrared sauna has had a remarkable positive impact on the sauna industry. People can now find traditional steam saunas and infrared saunas in such places as homes, health clubs, fitness centers, spas, clinics, rehabilitation centers, sports clinics, hotels, and luxury resorts. The price of saunas has decreased significantly in recent years which has resulted people from all walks of life using them instead of just the wealthy. It is now used fro relaxation and stress reduction, and improving one’s physical health and well being. People across the globe enjoy the benefits of an ancient tradition.

The GOP In 2008: Overview and Analysis (Second of three parts)

19 Aug

III. ALAN KEYES:

Alan Keyes is a Maryland resident and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Social and Economic Council under Ronald Reagan. He earned a Ph.D. in government affairs from Harvard in 1979 and is also the host the radio call-in show, “America’s Wake-Up Call: The Alan Keyes Show.” He launched his first bid for the Senate in 1988, But lost to incumbent Democrat Paul Sarbanes. In 1992 he ran again, this time losing to Democrat Barbara Mikulski. During this campaign Keyes ran up still un[paid campaign debts while he paid himself a salary of $100,000 out of campaign funds. He counters that the debt is that of his campaign and that he is personally not responsible for it.

Though he has sought the GOP Presidential nomination twice before and is quite charismatic, Keyes is also enigmatic and in some circles considered an "extremist." Another issue of concern is whether or not Keyes can be a "loyal" Republican, as it was reported by the Washington Post in 1992 that Keyes called the party "racist", adding "Beyond a certain level blacks need not apply...If I can work out in the fields, I think I ought to be allowed to come into the house for dinner."

As a Presidential candidate Keyes often lamented the fact that many of the questions asked him were centered on race and he found such questioning disturbing. He believed the media did not portray him as an equally capable candidate, and emphasized his race more than his stands on the issues. Slate's Jacob Weisberg said that "the racial factor works mildly in Keyes' favor" because, if he were a white Republican, and thus less of a novelty, the press would portray him more directly as a fanatic. Ignoring Keyes is the kindest thing the press can do for him."

Keyes is stringently anti-abortion, writing in 2002 "The violation on [sic] innocent human life is the same whether you commit terrorism or commit abortion.” (“The Vocabulary of Terror: Anti-abortion politics since 9/11,” April 10, 2002). Keyes added, “”What distinguishes the terrorist from the ordinary warrior, is that the terrorist will consciously target innocent human life. What is done in the course of an abortion? Someone consciously targets innocent human life.”

During the January 6, 2000 Republican Presidential debate he revealed that his stand on homosexuality is even more biting: “It’s about time we all faced up to the truth. If we accept the radical homosexual agenda, be it in the military or in marriage or in other areas of our lives, we are utterly destroying the concept of family. We must oppose it in the military. We must oppose it in marriage. We must oppose it if the fundamental institution of our civilization is to survive. Those unwilling to face that fact and playing games with this issue are doing so irresponsibly at the price of America’s moral foundations.” (Meanwhile, few know that Keyes’ daughter Maya is a lesbian, a lifestyle he has condemned as “selfish hedonism”).

During the 2004 Illinois Senatorial debates Keyes was asked, “What would you say to your child if one of your children was to come to you and to say that he or she was a homosexual?” Keyes’ response was “I do not say that homosexual relations is an abomination, the Bible says so. And many people in this state believe the Bible when it says so…Marriage–traditional marriage–is based upon heterosexual relations, because they are connected to procreation. In every society and civilization, marriage is connected to the business of regulating the consequences of procreation. And that is the fundamental argument, in a civic sense, against something like homosexual marriage. It is irrelevant. It is not needed, and the idea that one should have legislation that is regulating private friendships for no reason at all strikes me as a fundamental degrading of those private friendships…and to institutionalize that, it seems to me, sets us on a road toward our social self-destruction.”

The eloquent Keyes believes that America needs a return to its morally-based roots. Such viewpoints make him sound “preachy”, but Keyes contends that the lack of moral fiber in this country is one of the causes of the problems affecting the inner cities. Keyes has a a strong following among conservative Christians, but not to the point where he has a realistic chance of ever being elected to anything. He says that abortion provides women “a choice to move against that life in her womb is a violation of the fundamental premise that makes America what it is…it’s about our commitment to what defines us as a people and a free country. I think it’s the most important issue of our time.” Still, others have trouble with his opposition to the constitutional clause allowing for the separation of church and state.

Keyes believes the 17th Amendment, which provides the direct election of United States Senators, rather than their election or appointment by a state legislature, unfairly diminishes the power of state legislatures. In 2004, Senator Zell Miller introduced S.J. Res. 35, that would repeal the 17th Amendment, believing it gave too much power to Washington’s special interests and was an attack on federalism. Also supporting that idea was Libertarian Lew Rockwell.

Keyes argues, “Senators were originally chosen, under our Constitution, by the state legislature–for the simple reason that the Senate was supposed to represent the state governments, not geographic entities, but the governments that are empowered to take care of the affairs of the states, as sovereign entities that, under our Constitution, retained the residual powers of government not delegated to the federal government…our laws, in the state of Illinois, are passed by the state legislature. In the passage of those laws, are the people of this state “disenfranchised”? Of course they’re not. When the legislature makes a decision, puts a criminal law on the books, it is “The People v. So-and-So” when that law is violated, because the legislature is presumed to represent the people. That is the meaning of our Constitutional system.”

IV. KEYES ON THE ISSUES

In 1996 Keyes sought the Republican Party Presidential nomination, but the prize went to Bob Dole who was throttled in the general election by Bill Clinton). In 2000 Keyes tried again. He “…was invited to join the two remaining major candidates, John McCain and George W. Bush, in a number of nationally televised debates. Many viewers were more impressed by Keyes than McCain or Bush, and commentators on Fox News Channel and MSNBC went as far as declaring Keyes the winner of the debates. FOX News Channel analyst Dick Morris said, ‘Bush has no place to go but down. Keyes had an original message and it registered’.”

In 2004 when the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat from Illinois had to resign due to a sex scandal, Keyes was recruited to answer the bell. Some saw him as a carpetbagger and worse, as a hypocrite for denouncing Hillary Clinton’s New York Senate bid after a brief residency in that state. Keyes said, “I deeply resent the destruction of federalism represented by Hillary Clinton’s willingness go into a state she doesn’t even live in and pretend to represent people there, so I certainly wouldn’t imitate it.” He blamed this hypocrisy on running at the Party’s request and to the unique circumstances under which his participation had been solicited. Nevertheless, the final results were Barack Obama won 3,524,70270 votes to Keyes’ 1,371,88227.

Keyes is an advocate of the death penalty and during his failed Illinois Senatorial campaign was asked, “How does your support of capital punishment, and opposition to abortion, conflict with your Roman Catholic faith? Keyes denied a conflict, stating “Abortion and capital punishment are at different levels of moral concern. Abortion is intrinsically, objectively, wrong and sinful, whereas capital punishment is a matter of prudential judgment which is not, in and of itself, a violation of moral right. There are certain issues that objectively violate the most fundamental canons of moral decency, and abortion, for instance, is one of them–the taking of innocent life…But if you take a position that effaces the distinction between innocent life and guilty life, then you not only violate a moral canon-you destroy the fundamental basis of the law, and that is the ultimate disrespect for human life.”

Keyes opposes the CAFTA, NAFTA and GATT agreements. Furthermore, he supports the 23% sales tax, which his Senatorial opponent Barack Obama called, “One of the most, potentially, regressive tax systems that we could have.” Keyes believes that such a flat-rate tax “Would be a net gain for a lot of taxpayers, right there. You would also see an enormous expansion of capitalization of the economy, expansion of jobs and productivity, and the most important thing is that the individual in their spending patterns would determine when they paid the tax. Every Fair Tax proposal also includes measures to make sure that the poor and those willing to live with frugality will not be paying the tax.”

Obama countered with a study backed with research from a University of Chicago economist. “After you had all the exemptions in place (the tax) it’d be around fifty cents to seventy cents on the dollar, on every purchase, if you made some of the exemptions that you suggest. (This tax is) on top of the state and local sales taxes that already exist.”

Keyes also stands strong against abortion citing the following figures: “Did you know that something like thirteen million black babies have been killed since Roe v. Wade, as a result of this holocaust of abortion? Did you know that the black population today is something like twenty-five percent less than it would otherwise be, because of abortion? Did you know that black women are disproportionately likely to have abortions, that more black babies are being aborted today than are being born, and that, as you project these kinds of tendencies into the future, the black population becomes a negligible factor in American politics and other things, over the course of the twenty-first century? I look back on black Americans with a heritage of oppression and slavery that, unfortunately, is involved in this question as well, because seventy-eight percent of the abortion clinics that are provided by the most numerous provider of abortions in America, Planned Parenthood, are located in or near the black community. Blacks are thirteen percent of the population. They account for over a third of the abortions. So I think that, on these important issues, we have to look for the patterns that still target people on the basis of race-and they’re targeting people in the womb.”

More recently Keyes opposed the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, writing “Many conservatives cannot understand why President George W. Bush has taken the stealth approach in his selection of nominees for the Supreme Court. If the Democrats trash highly qualified nominees because their thinking reflects the president’s judgment instead of the Democrat Party platform, it won’t be hard to convince the public that they are simply trying to achieve through intimidation what they couldn’t achieve at the ballot box in the last presidential election.”

V. WILL CONDI RUN?

Dr. Condoleezza Rice, named by her mother after the Italian musical notation “Con Dolcezza” (meaning to play “with sweetness.”), was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1954. During this time Birmingham was the center of the Civil Rights movement, but her family was not the demonstrative type, choosing to emphasize hard work and education as the means of “overcoming.”

B. Denise Rawlins writes, “As the only child of educators, the importance of learning was impressed upon Rice from day one. She learned to read when most children were still struggling to walk and by the age of 3 had begun lessons in a wide range of areas: Classical piano, figure skating, ballet, French. Rice was in eighth grade by age 11, entered the University of Denver at 15, and went on to earn her doctorate in international studies.”

She is idolized by little black girls across the country and in the eyes of some is the darling of the Republican Party. She has the President’s ear, briefing him each morning and speaks to him throughout the day. Former Clinton aide Dick Morris predicts that either she or Hillary Clinton will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States in January, 2009. He and co-author Eileen McGann believe, “There is one, and only one, figure in America who can stop Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State Condoleezza ‘Condi’ Rice. Among all of the possible Republican candidates for President, Condi alone could win the nomination, defeat Hillary and derail a third Clinton administration. Condoleezza, in fact, poses a mortal threat to Hillary’s success. With her broad-based appeal to voters outside the traditional Republican base, Condi has the potential to cause enough major defections from the Democratic party to create serious erosion among Hillary’s core voters. She attracts the same female, African-American and Hispanic voters who embrace Hillary, while still maintaining the support of conventional Republicans.”

It is doubtful that if she were to run for President Rice would get widespread black support. Many blacks do not embrace her, seeing her as the front for an administration that is indifferent to the concerns of blacks. This started with George Bush’s snubbing of an NAACP invitation during the primaries, to the upholding of Michigan’s anti-affirmative action statutes (on Martin Luther Kings birthday no less) to the slow reaction to those left stranded by Hurricane Katrina. In all three instances, Rice was criticized as a “Bush apologist.” A recent article in The Black Commentator declared Rice, “…the purest expression of the race traitor. No polite description is possible.” The article goes on to say, “…the Republican Party adopted a strategy of selective, high profile minority appointments. This approach allowed the GOP to continue to cultivate its core racist base…Of decidedly secondary importance was the possibility of finding substantial support among Black voters.”

Before Rice became a part of Republican politics she was a student at Stanford University. During this time she was influenced by Czechoslovakian diplomat Josef Korbel, the father of soon-to-be Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Rice first drew notice when during a 1984 faculty seminar she challenged Brent Scowcroft, who was the head of President Ronald Reagan’s Commission on Strategic Forces. After a talk on arms control, Rice questioned the wisdom of the administration’s policies. Scowcroft later admitted that Rice was, “somebody I need to get to know. It’s an intimidating subject. Here’s this young girl, and she’s not at all intimidated.”

Scowcroft began inviting Rice to various government events, and when he became National Security Advisor in 1989, appointed her to the National Security Council, as an authority on Soviet policy. In 1998 she met then-Governor of Texas, George W. Bush for a meeting on the campus at Stanford University. A year later she resigned her position as provost of Stanford to lead Bush’s team of foreign-policy advisers. In 2000 Dr. Rice was chosen to address the Republican National Convention in 2000.

While her strength is foreign policy, it begs the question of how she might fare on domestic issues. Rice’s economic acumen might best be illustrated by her tenure at Stanford, where she had to make unpopular budget cuts. Two years later the school was back on solid economic footing, impressing the school’s benefactors.

On the war on terrorism Rice says that the Bush administration, “…acted swiftly to unify and streamline our efforts to secure the American homeland. The president and Congress, through the USA Patriot Act, have broken down the legal and bureaucratic walls that prior to Sept. 11 hampered intelligence and law enforcement agencies from collecting and sharing vital threat information. Those who now argue for rolling back the Patriot Act’s changes invite us to forget the important lesson we learned on Sept. 11.”

However, some see her as nothing more than her playing “Checkers” to Bush’s Nixon. During her Senate confirmation hearings (for the Secretary of State position) California Senator Barbara Boxer said that her loyalty to George Bush, “overwhelmed your respect for the truth.” Boxer also criticized the Bush administration (and Rice in particular) for failing to develop an exit strategy for Iraq and being unwilling to acknowledge mistakes.

As Bush’s right-hand, her policies might emphasize the same ones the President has stressed during his second term. This might include partially privatizing social security, revising tax laws and addressing the issue of immigration. Like Alan Keyes, Rice considers herself a deeply religious person, meaning she is more than likely against abortion and gay marriage, but there is no proverbial “paper trail” in which can be attributed to Rice. Nonetheless, there are Condi detractors such as Grugyn Silverbristle who writes, “As I began to investigate Condoleezza Rice, the first irony that I noted was an almost complete absence of original writings. Her important books and papers are almost always co-authored. In fact, almost the only original ‘work’ by Condoleezza that I could locate was her Class Day speech of June 12, 1999.”

In this speech Rice utters the line, “Our common border is no longer a line that divides us, but a region that unites our nations, reflecting our common aspirations, values and culture…” It has been alleged that this line was lifted from a previous speech by Colin Powell. The accusation that Rice may not be “an original thinker” would probably do nothing to hurt her on the campaign trail. And while Rice is “flattered” by the “Draft Condi” websites, she has no desire to be President, unless it is of the National Football League. (I’m serious, folks).

Rice did however pen an essay titled, “Promoting the National Interest,” which focused on the need for changing the U.S. foreign policy of allowing our allies to have say in U.S. foreign policy. Rice wrote, “…the U.S. should return to the core principle that ‘power matters’.” This was written a year before Bush launched his 2000 bid for the White House. It has now become the cornerstone of Mr. Bush’s foreign policy.

Some candidates have declined to run for the Presidency because they don’t want to subject their families to the invasiveness of the media. In the case of Condoleezza ice’s case she would have to fend off unsubstantiated rumors of her being a lesbian. The question was spawned in all places, in a comic strip called “The Boondocks” and the statement, “Maybe if there was a man in the world who Condoleezza truly loved, she wouldn’t be so hell-bent to destroy it.”

The Washington Post pulled that version of the strip citing its policy of not commenting on the personal lives of political figures. Democrats won’t be so nice, as we saw the attacks on Mary Cheney during the 2004 campaign. Sarah Warn asserts, “Of course, being called a lesbian shouldn’t be any big deal, but the reality is that for women (particularly single women) in public positions of power, these kinds of rumors can be very damaging. (It is) the use of lesbianism as a slur that is so disturbing, since it’s based not only on the assumption that a strong, confidant woman must not be a “real” (read: heterosexual) woman, but that only women in heterosexual relationships are ‘real’ women.”

The politics of destruction are more than a fancy catchphrase, but a distinct reality. When is the last time a presidential campaign was truly about issues? Since the Bush-Dukakis debacle (the political nadir in my book), personal attacks have been launched under the guise of “who has the stronger family values.”

If Condi does run, she will have access to some very deep pockets, “having served on the board of directors for the Chevron Corporation, the Charles Schwab Corporation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Transamerica Corporation, Hewlett Packard, The Carnegie Corporation, The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Rand Corporation, and KQED, public broadcasting for San Francisco. She was also on the Board of Trustees of the University of Notre Dame, the International Advisory Council of J.P. Morgan, and the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors.” (Wikipedia). Again, this might cause black voters to be leery of her, believing she (like most GOP members) is beholden to big business.

In August 2004 and 2005 Forbes magazine named her the world’s most powerful woman. So should Condi run? The consensus is she is the administration’s most intelligent member and has an excellent chance of winning. Her popularity cuts across racial lines. Even as the Vice-Presidential nominee she makes the GOP formidable when coupled with Jeb Bush, John McCain or Rudy Giulani. Furthermore, a Rice-Clinton campaign might bring politics back to where it should be: A discussion of the issues between two astute individuals–and may the best woman win–assuming it comes down to that.

Home Allergy Treatment is a Good First Step

17 Aug

The first step in any allergy treatment is to avoid that which sparks allergic reactions. Depending on the allergy trigger, the treatment needed to overcome the effects will vary, but avoidance is by far the best method of treating any allergy. Many people find themselves allergic to dust and pollen and allergy treatment for the home can become a time consuming and financial burden if not approached the right way.

Expensive filtering systems and cleaning methods do not always work as they are advertised to work and many times the allergy treatment leaves dust and pollen floating through the air in the home. Vacuuming the home can be a tedious process and replacing the carpet with hard surface flooring such as wood or linoleum is not always an affordable option. Even vacuum cleaners with built-in filters stir the dust into the air where it will stay for 15 to 20 minutes before settling down on furniture and other furniture.

Once the room as been thoroughly vacuumed and time has passed to allow the dust to settle, allergy treatment will include damp dusting the furniture and any other flat surface to make sure it is all picked up. The person with the allergy should never be the one to vacuum or dust, as the materials sent through the room during the process will only aggravate the situation.

House And Cleaning Temperature Is Important

To slow the growth of dust mites the temperature in the home should be between 68 and 72 degrees and when clothes are washed, especially bed linens, the water should be at about 135-degrees to insure killing all mites. The allergy treatment in the bedroom should be more thorough as it is the room where people spend most of their time and it has the most opportunity for dust mites to multiply.

Drapes and curtains should be washable and mini blinds or Venetian blinds should be avoided as they offer a friendly environment for dust and dust mites. Bed linens should be washable and another allergy treatment is imitation feather bedspreads. They are easier to wash and the synthetic materials do not clump when wet, which is a problem with feather beds.

Families with children should avoid the introduction of dust-collecting items such as stuffed animals and other items that will serve as dust collectors. Gifts of books are always popular and will help keep the dust mite count down to a minimum.
